It sounds like her bettas are currently in a 1 gallon vase and a 3 gallon tank and I'm betting they was no filter. If that's the case, her water change schedule she was doing (50% every 5-7 days, 100% every 2 weeks) is fine. But on the new 10 gallon with a filter, once it's cycled, weekly partial water changes of 20-30% are all that's needed.

150 Gallon - Mostly American Cichlids
135 Gallon - Angelfish Community
75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank
20 Gallon Long - QT
10 Gallon - Empty

ouch betta vases.. >.< well then the upgrade to a 10 gallon for 2 will be excellent for the fish. Let us know what your planning to do.
