Water Caterpillar?

I bought some kind of fern-like plant for my freshwater aquarium two or three weeks ago. This morning, I noticed the top of the plant had fallen off, and there was a small yellow insect (it looked like a caterpillar, and was the same size) emerging from the bud.

When I moved it away from the plant it was crawling towards, it ducked back into it's bud.

It's a light, almost transparent yellow colour, with small hairs/spikes covering it's body.

I have an African Dwarf Frog in the tank as well as some fry, and am worried on whether the bug will harm the ADF if she eats it, and if it would be better to remove the pest.

I tried Google-ing it, but came up with nothing. Thanks for you help!

Welcome to the forum Jewlye. I'm not too sure what it could be, but would say - if in doubt remove it.

Are you able to provide pictures of both the plant and the catepillar bug?

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I decided to remove it, and took apart the leaves surrounding it. I found it wasn't a caterpillar, seemed more like a grub, about a centimeter long and 3-4 mm thick. Because it wasn't bright, hopefully this means it isn't poisonous.

It definitely belongs in the water-when I took it out of the aquarium, it just looked like a yellow blob.

Whatever it will turn into, I'm fairly certain I don't want it. Perhaps I'll feed it to my betta...
In the meantime, it's sitting in a plastic cup in my window.
