Your welcome, I am still trying to master my dslr, my film slr's are so much simplier, in my opinion. For the flash if you are using the camera flash you should be able to adjust the intensity of the flash in the camera settings. Might take some searching and playing around, but might find something that works. Also you can always try fixing the coloring in a editing program. If you have any questions feel free to pm me and I will try my best to answer them. Don't want to hijack this thread

set the camera back a bit and add a little more lighting or get a macro lens.auto focus can only work at certain lenghts.set a higher iso and adjust the shutter and aperature i use a setting of 4.5 to 5.6 sometimes to get a better shot in dim lighting. as for the flash you can switch it off if your using the M or TV mode the rest of the settings has been set to auto flash most can't be changed depending on the model of the DSLR.
