Talking Very quick color change ?!?

Hi everyone !
Just bought 12 colombian tetras to add some company to my 9 silvertip tetras...
They are 1/2 to 3/4 inches, and were transparent grey this afternoon. Their fins and tails got red the moment I let the bag float on the water. An hour later, their bodies and eyes became blue !!
My question is : HOW'S THAT EVEN POSSIBLE ? I thought they would take weeks to change color, and needed low pH (the water is 7.6) and super food to get such a beautiful suit ! They didn't even get any food yet...
Also, the silvertips have been spawning like 3-4 times a week, with regular flakes and basic pH even while cycling the tank. I've been feeding only once every 2 days, since the tank is new (2 months now).
Questionning myself, but very happy with the results !

Fish at LFS are overcrowded and stressed in those bare aquariums
a stressed out fish will loose color prety drasticly, my black ruby barb when i first got them where just like tiger barbs or almost just plain pink*silver with black stripes, and when they got in the bag they where literaly pink no stripes
as soon as i floated the bag I could literaly see the stripes coming back on them and a day after I noticed I had all males because they where all black/red and fighting like champs! Or another exemple and simpler is when my lights close and they go to sleep they just find them selfs a corner and hover around there all night but when they do that they loose almost all there colors, very noticeble when my lights come on they are all dull but 5 minuts later they are as black as charcoal and nose as red as Rudolph the red nose reindeer :P

Well, thanks for the answer ! I guess that some species have more drastic color changes, since my silvertip are as colorful as when I got them (but the LFS silvertip tank was less crowded than the one that had the colombians in). I guess I'll need sunglasses to look at them once they are well fed and established !
It would be awesome if we, humans, could change from being stressed to being happy within hours !
:)

Did you get some females to give them a reason to fight ? And if so, how did you manage to buy females if the colors are so faded at the LFS ?

No sadly I dont have any females in the group they just fight for the glory of keeping more black and red on them then others hehe I always have 2 of them that are more black and red then the others hehe
and some days it changes!
and yeah id like to get females ... hard to get tho each time I go they are all males
females are more yellow/silver with black stripes , and males have a little bit of red on there anal fins
I will probably get more of them when I get a bigger aquarium then il get only black ruby and make a school of like 30 in a 90 g of something like it hehe

Hey fellow Montréaler !
Where do you buy your fish ? Aquarius ? They lately received some Pseudomugil furcatus... They look awesome! I was thinking about going with the Odessa Barbs instead of the tetra de Colombie, but didn't want to get 4 colorful males and 8 dull females. I buy my fish at Centre d'animaux Nature à Boisbriand (actually, i'm now living in St-Jérôme), they have Odessa barbs for 4.99 $. I will get them when I'll get another tank, and will probably mix them with the barbs you have and maybe some green barbs too.
Concerning your girlfriend, I'm happy she can turn from stressed to happy ! d'habitude, c'est plus facile de passer de happy à stressed !
;)

hehe yeah indeed im from south shore on mtl tho I buy my fish at a local place called aza aquarium its some vietnamese holding the shop and they know what they are doing hehe
they got a pond with koi in there 25 years old
and alot of fish and stuff for aquarium but no aquariums it self its small but they keep there fish healthy! the black ruby i got from there where almost 2 inch already, good selection of plants too!
there is also safari close but i don't like them.
and about the black ruby make sure you get a long aquarium as they like to swim really fast some times :) and they need space to joust hehe look them up on youtube they are awsome when they fight! but they leave other kinds of fish alone wich is a good thing unlike tiger barbs some times.
