Vacuuming with plants

Hi everyone!

Since I posted here last I switched to weekly (this time was a week and a half) water changes of 20-30%, as I was doing it every 3-4 weeks based on advice from a pet store. Anyway, I have a gravel vacuum but stopped vacuuming a few months ago because there are small plants in the gravel, which don't seem to have very strong roots (some do, but not all). How do you vacuum with a planted tank? Is vacuuming necessary if there are no nitrates, nitrites, or ammonia? (My tank hasn't had any of those since probably 10 months ago when the nitrogen cycle was complete.

Thank you!

Oh, I am sorry. I just saw "similar threads" at the bottom of the page after I posted. A piece of information given was that in a tank with a lot of plants, you don't have to vacuum because the substrate has food for the plants in it. So, I got my answer!
