Using R/O water

I have read that after using R/0 water for water changes, it needs to have certain minerals/buffering agents add back to the water. if so, what needs to be added back.

Well, it depends on what type of fish you have. Basically, you need something that raises the ph and increases your gh and kh.

Actually, the reason for the R/O water change is that I was having low Ph problems using tap water. my tap water was testing so bad in all tests. I went to the my lfs and got 25 gal. of R/0 water. (I have a 55gal.) It lowered my trites @ 0, trates @ 0 (they we already low or 0) and amm. still a little high @ 1- and slightly raised my Ph. from 6.2 to 6.8. not rapidly it was over 2 days.

Hmm, well, proper r/o water is completely devoid of minerals, so it has no buffering capacity and the ph can rapidly drop. Also, obviously, the fish need these minerals, so I'd recommend getting a product that replaces these lost minerals and hardens the water.
