upgrading tank size

hey guys, i just bought a 60g tank, had a 30g planted tank with canister filter(Rena XP2), was wondering if i could just fill the 60g up and move my canister filter over?

basically i have a planted tank and wanted to move everything except gravel over to the 60g, should i move it over and let it run for a week?

and i had about 25 small fish (galaxy rasboras, white clouds, and cardinal tetras), can i leave them in there w/o a filter for a week? or is that too much for them to handle, its planted with a lot of plants, thanks!

Your tank may still have a mini-cycle with you using the old filter. Using the old filter will certainly speed up the process but won't eliminate the cycle completely.

The plants will help and your fish should be alright for a week without a filter. The only problem I could forsee would be a lack of oxygen contet. Would it be possible to add a little airstone or something to break the surface of the water?

why not run the new filter on the old tank for a week or just move some media over? you could do a jump started fishless cycle in no time. you could also use the media stock very slowly.
