upgrading questions

so i am going to upgrade my daughter's 10 gallon tank to a 20 gallon tank.....what is the best way to do this? the current filter goes up to 30 gallons. if i just move everything into the 20 will i still have to recycle the tank?
i would be moving the gravel (and adding some new gravel) and the filter into the new tank. would this still create a cycle or would it still be the same if i use all the water from the old tank.

Water isn't what would cause a mini cycle, the bacteria is on your substrate, decor, walls, filter media, etc. The more you transfer over to the new tank the better. You may get a slight hiccup but everything should be fine. I'd transfer your substrate and decor, half the water, then the fish and add new water w/ conditioner. Just don't let anything dry out.

i plan on moving everything from the old tank into the new. only thing i will be doing is adding more gravel but not getting rid of the old stuff.

Ditto, water carries no good bacteria, your plan will work just fine . congrats on the extra room for more fish.
