Tiny white specs crawling around on glass...

I was looking at my new fish and noticed something moving in the corner of the tank. It was a little larva looking thing that was flopping around...almost looked like a mosquito larva...who knows...maybe it was...should be a good snack for the fish...anyways...then I noticed tiny, tiny little white specs moving on the glass and substrate. Moving very fast...they would crawl and sometimes swim quickly from the front glass to the side glass (this was all taking place in the corner area). They were so small I couldn't tell anything about them. Figure they are Copepods and/or Amphipods...I just didn't realize they could be found in freshwater aquariums. I guess I am just checking to make sure they aren't anything to worry about.

I wouldn't worry over a minimal number as this sounds to be. Fish usually eat any living critters. An excess of something like Planaria would be a concern. I often have very small buff-coloured bugs that hop on the surface, around the larger floating plants. Some of the fish have found them, and will eat them if they can. In a planted tank, it is amazing all the micro-plankton that will live everywhere.

The aquarist is one who must learn the ways of the biologist, the chemist, and the veterinarian. [unknown source]

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]

yes fish do like to eat phytoplanktons and zooplanktons but ectoparasites may be harmful for them
