Ok, it's a new semester in college, and I'm ready for a change....I absolutely HATE the colors of my 10 gallon tank at the moment. I've been thinking about going with a planted tank, but I'm not sure of a theme... If it's any help, the tank's residents include 2 adult guppies (3 fry), 2 platys, and an albino pleco.

Hey there! I'm thinking about floating Brazilian Pennywort to add shade and cover so my guys and gals feel safer and show their best colors. It was suggested by Byron "Thanks Byron!" Other than that I have silk plants that are very life like. I call my tank The Hippie Tank! My 10 gallon is Black and white gravel with lots of plants and a lava rock with a hole in it. I also have 2 brightly colored ceramic ornaments, I guess that's what you call them, They have lots of holes and the fish love to swim through them! Lastly, I bought clear fishing line and attached it to the ornaments and have lotus flowered lily pads in the water. You couldn't see them floating on top so they are in the water. My Chinese algae eater has already taken a liking to scanning the bottom for a snack!

I know you said you wanted to try planted but a complete hardscape I think would look real good. A black substrate with some driftwood and strategically placed rocks would really make the colors of your fish pop. That'd also always leave the option of planting it later on too if you wanted. Something similar to this is what I was thinking
