Let me chime in about the "fishless cycle" using shrimp...IT WILL SMELL LIKE YOU KNOW WHAT! I did it and ended up having to ditch the shrimp! It will go to stinking, terribly! I did my 55g and after a few days it got unbearable! The easiest way to me would be to take some media from a cycled tank and place it in your new tank. I saw the other day a guy took his filter sponges and squeezed it out in a cup. Looked like some dirty water, he then poured it into a new tank. Don't know the outcome just yet on that though. Take my word for it, the shrimp in the sock thing STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN!! LOL
