Test results you have to see to believe!

OK 2 weeks ago I had Flourite/sand in my tank. Before I pulled it out of the tank my test results were
kh 0
gh off the chart..it took 26 drops to change the color!
ph 5.8-6

I've done 2 water changes since I pulled the Flourite out and put in Volcanic and Flora Base, here are the new results
kh 3 drops = 53.7ppm
gh 4 drops = 71.6
ph 6.4

Nothing else changed except the Flourite came out of the tank. I did the tests at least 4 times each with 2 differant liquid tests. Oh, in case you wondering, my tap water is
kh 6 drops
gh 4 drops

They are the happiest they've been in a long time. Why?

My concern with the fish would be the zero KH and the pH swing. Shuld be fine though as long as it doesn't happen anymore.

I am curious what the flourite and sand has in it that your GH went so high but KH was 0. Just one of those things that makes every aquarium a little different from another.

I've heard of 3 people whos water was very very hard with Flourite. My number have been consistant since I started the tank in Nov and we couldn't figure out why. Even Dawn was looking at everything to figure it out and it just made no sence. The gh was about 320ppm. The gh and kh slowly came up/down. The ph never dropped when the kh was at 0 which theoritically, it should have. I've been working on this tank since Nov to get it right. Between 8 weeks to cycle, false ammonia readings due to the Stability and the high gh, I've been going crazy!!
