Tank support

I have a 55g that's been down for a couple years while I remodel and add on to my home. I'm currently building a new stand before setting it back up. I bought a sheet of 1/2" thick rigid foam insulation from Lowe's ( the blue board) to put under the tank. Is that too thick and will settle on edges to put too much pressure on bottom glass?? Or do you think it will be OK. Thanks in advance!!!

foam? why use foam? why not just use wood? Yes it is possible that it will settle and cause problems in the long run

If you have the tank frame sitting on wood it should be OK (unlike metal which is not). I have my 70g on a sheet of 3/4 inch plywood supported by columns of cement blocks. The tank will "sink" into the wood to even out. On a metal stand with no give (unlike wood) you should use foam of some type to even out the miniscule spaces; I have this on my 90g which is on a metal frame stand.

I'm not familiar with the particular foam sheet you mention, but I gather the tank may sink down into it? What's under the foam, a sheet of wood or just a frame? If a wood frame, no problem; if a sheet of wood I would expect the "give" in the foam to be sufficient to prevent it pushing the tank glass up. It would take a lot of force to do that, with a tank of gravel, water, etc.
