Tank setup questions

I have setup up a tank with a few plants and some rocks. Going through everyone else pictures my tank looks pitiful in comparison. How can I get a nice natural look going? Any suggestions? I do needs some more hiding places. I know I will need more plants and rock to getr the look I am desiring, but don't want to spend the money until I know exactly what I want to do with it. Nothing I am doing seems to look right...maybe I'm just not tank artisitc , oooooo idk, any suggestions would be great. Oh its a 20h, I'm sure someone will ask!!

im not sure about this, its all about taste i guess. kinda hard to say what makes one tank look "better" then another. maybe some c02 would make your plants fill in faster and look healthier? IDK!

Want to know how many times I re did my tank before I got it how I like it? Well first I had black and neon gravel with plastic plants and chinese looking decor, then I had sand that wasn't even the nice sand it was really big sand and just looked horrible. After the sand I went to FloraBase with a differant snad on top..not good since it all mixed together and looked horrible. Then I had Flourite with black, tan and a little blue sand. That looked pretty cool till the cories started mixing everything up. Now I'm fully planted with a nice mix of FloraBase and Volcanic. I think my hubby is keeping track of how much I spend eachtime if you want an exact number but my mistake was always trying to move to fast since I was so excited to redo the tank. Look at pics..see what you like..ask a million questions and you'll find "your" tank and you'll love it.

Hi!
I have had my tank since july 07 and it still isn't looking how I like just yet! So don't feel bad. Take your time!
If you don't have fish in there yet, this is the perfect time to move things around as much as you like to get what you like.

if you have plants try putting taller ones in the back and shorter ones in the front, or taller ones on the sides and shorter ones in the middle.

I found three big hunks of red petrified wood and made a cool little bridge out of it.

you can also get aquarium sealant (the stuff used to seal leaks and such) and get cool flat rocks and make all kinds of cool stuff. I am partial to the black slate.

I would also recommend eco- complete for plants, it's a bit pricey but I heard it works wonders. I haven't tried it yet but I am getting some for my 30g!

good luck! :)

Well where can I find any f these. I asked my lfs they didnt have anything. I went to Petco, they had nothing at all and then I went to Petsmart and they had Flourite, but I keep hearing people say how unimpressed they are with it. And how can I add it took my tank, if my fish are already in there?

Buy a massive funnel to get the "dirt" to the bottom of the tank, without clouding it up to much. Buyable from any decent hardware store. Simply pour the ''dirt'' in to the funnel while the other end of the funnel is at the bottom of your tank, and move the funnel around to distribute it over the floor of your tank.
Hope that helps!
