Tank on the ground?

Is it possible to have a tank just sitting on the floor, instead of on a stand? My dad surprised me with a 65 gallon extra tall. I'm afraid that if I put it on stand I won't be able to reach inside of it, it's two feet tall and I'm only 5'1. Would this be too stressful on the fish? It would be in my room so not many people walking past it, but I do have cats.

I wouldn't do it. The stand is built to have solid flat surface no matter the floor. This keeps the glass bottom flat. A floor moves, flexes and puts the tank in the road of all sorts of possible accidents.

You don't really want an aquarium on the floor for several reasons...
- Siphoning
- toe kick
- cats
- display aesthetic

Just get a step stool and you should be fine.

I know your pain Jen, My tanks 26'' tall and on a 31''stand.....well even at 6'1 i have to stand on a chair to reach the bottom.....
My tweezers/scissors (interchangeable!) are even 25'' long!!!

So, i'd go with a super low stand for you, like 6'' or something just to take it off the floor. Best bet might even be to have yourself/your dad knock one up for you if he could. Price wise too this would certainly make sense.
