Often livebearers or danios are used.

Personally, I'd recommend you forget this idea and do a fishless cycle :)

I'm not sure what you mean here. Why is it better to have fish present during cycling? The very reason I prefer cycling without fish is simply because there are no fish ther to be harmed by the toxins.

I was with you on this that one until i watched my neons suffer. My next tank's cycle will be without fish. I can't sacrifice them for my own pleasures

[i like a tank with fish in it lol]

so you would rather watch your fish die slowly and painfully than waiting a couple weeks to watch them live and grow... not so sure that makes sense [/quote]

They are hardy but cycling also subjects them to permanent stress and damage very unfortunately. Fish brought in a tank that has already been cycled will live longer than those subjected to stress and damage brought by cycling circumstances.

I'm ready for the pressure.
The drama and the pleasure!
If there is one thing I want to see here, it's HUMOR.
I believe I can fly!
I believe I can touch the sky!
I think about it every night and day!
I stand in awe of my body.
