Tank cycle advise needed please

set my tank up last week and started a fishless cycle 5 days in and i had ammonia levels of 7ppm and also started getting desent readings of nitrite i think i might of added to much ammonia so as the nitrite was building up the ammonia wasent dropping so today i carried out a 40% water change and now the ammonia levels are around 4 - 5 ppm and hpoefully i should see the levels drop evenly i was just wonderin if the water change will affect the cycle at all thanks dave

No, it should not affect the cycle. In fact, I believe an ammonia level of 4-5 is where you want it in a fishless cycle. 7ppm is pretty high and may actually stall the cycle.

Be patient, fishless cycling doesn't always happen instantly either, but its worth it.

Dechlorinated water is imperative. If you don't use dechlorinated water you will recycle that tank for a long time as the bacteria might die from the chlorine.
