Tank cleaning

I need help...

I began the set up process of a 10 gallon tank. I thought that my idea was genius. I want it in the bottom portion of the stand for my 50 gallon. It is an iron stand and I want to retro-fit the stand with plywood under and behind the tank.

I ran into a problem. I found out that my Aqueon Water Changer (essentially a Python) does NOT siphon water. It will until the hose is filled to the tap and that is it. Cleaning would not take place. I would totally get a regular siphon as I really only would be doing 2 gallons a week but I am afraid that the tank being low is the problem.

For those who setups like what I've done how do you gravel vac these lower tanks? Are the battery operated siphons good?

Yeah, I had some issues with that on my 5.5 under my 33 gallon but thankfully it was high enough that it didn't usually have too much issue once the siphon was started. A battery operated siphon would probably be your best bet if you didn't want to do a little more DIY work and raise the tank more on the stand.

Not really enough room to raise it. I was approved for another stand but I like having it underneath. I'm going to check out a battery operated siphon first.
