Tank Capacity

My 29 gallon tank just completed a mini-cycle after adding 6 zebra loaches. I already have 6 glofish. Is this max capacity? Would eventually adding 2 dwarf gouramis be too much? I suppose I could monitor the weekly accumulation of Nitrate, but I'm guessing Nitrate level isn't the only consideration.

Need to add your fish slower. Let your tank run for a while, then add the gourami's one at a time. Plants would help... Without plants, adding two gourami's is really pushing it.

If you stay on the water changes (30% twice a week) you should be ok...

Make sure you have floating plants. All gourami will be better with floating ploants, it is natural. Plus the floating plants use nutrients from the water and assimilate CO2 from the air so they do a fantastic job of filtration.

I would however add the two dwarf gourami together, but make sure it is a pair (male/female). There are problems with this species, Honey Gourami might be better. Read about all this in our profile, click on the shaded name to see that profile.

Thanks for the responces. I'm still not decided about adding the 2 gourami or not. If I do, I will wait at least a month or two to let the tank settle after the last mini-cycle. I added the 6 zebra loaches 6 weeks after the 6 glofish had been in the tank. I wasn't sure how to strike a balance between keeping social fish in a minimum sized school and adding fish slowly as to not shock the tank with a sudden bio load. I added the 6 all at once and for a couple weeks I was able to keep the ammonia below 0.25 ppm with daily 20% water changes.

I do have 15 to 20 live plants and some of them are water sprite. Frogbit looks interesting too. I will take a closer look at the Honey Gourami.
