Switching from HOB to Sponge filter

I'm planning on switching my 29 gal from HOB with bio wheel to a sponge filter, should I keep both running until the sponge gets some time in or take off the HOB right away?

Run both simultaneously for at least two weeks, preferably four then you can remove the HOB.
