stuff on heater

I have noticed a very hard substance forming on 2 out ot 6 tanks and they are glass ones. My mollies seen to enjoy picking at it but they do not eat it all. What is the stuff? How do I get rid of it?

Is it white and flaky looking? Maybe hard water calcium deposits?

Maybe flaky isn't quite the right word. But it still sounds like calcuim/mineral deposit
