Is this stuff algae or just come kind of crud?

I have checked two or three algae ID sites and I don't find this mess. Here is a picture through fairly clean aquarium glass. I cannot figure out how to take decent pictures through the glass..get a good laugh from the camera reflection.

Here is a bit closer up shot of the same blob. I have about three of these blobs, plus the aquarium glass is pretty dirty

Here is the second biggest mess, this one through the "dirty glass" I think it is the same stuff on both the glass and blob.

Regardless of what this is, what is the solution. I have been waiting on some new plants to do a good cleaning and bigger than average water change. Hope they come before this crud takes over.

Thanks in advance.

Sheesh, what the heck is that stuff? I've never seen anything like it but I'm sure someone else has. That someone, who ever they may be, should be along shortly!

Could be too much light, or light's left on too long. Might reduce lighting period if lights are on much longer than eight hour's, Reduce intensity by raising light fixture, run T8 bulbs if not injecting CO2 or using liquid carbon source,or all of the above,
You mentioned in another thread that light's go off at 10 p.m. When do they come on? What lighting is being used and what type of bulbs?
Would for sure remove what I could of the stuff.

Is this a new tank? I had some weird blobby stuff in my tank when it was new. After a while it went away.

I cut back to seven hours some time ago. This started sometime after. I have two 6500k bulbs. I have a bag of peat in my filter. Peat related? Tnanks._

Maybe you're dosing too much fertilisers?
From what I understand, you have to make sure not to dose too much fertilisers to prevent algae from establishing itself.

I have been trying to put in one capful one week, and two caps the next. I will cut back to one a week. THanks.

May be too much light, try one bulb. Same algae and problem I initially had. Under control now in my tank (cut back to 1 T5HO bulb)

That looks very much like what I had a couple months ago. And in the same tank that gets cyanobacteria. So I assume they may be related, by which I mean the cause. I have never had this (or cyano) in the other tanks.

It is now gone. I would reduce light, and organics. I don't know what this is called, it appeared mainly around the roots of floating plants, but also (less) on plant leaves in the tank below.

I intended to take a photo and ask one of my colleagues at Aquatic Gardners, but didn't get to doing it and now it's thankfully gone.

Byron.

I did a major tank cleaning on Friday night. I cut the light back to only 6 hours (for a while) and have really cut down on feeding. I used a butter tin, downstream and captured 95% of the one big blob.

The other was on floating plants and I took them out, rinsed them, and removed all I could, until I got tired of messing with them. I then lightly "scrubbed" any more I could find off leaves of planted guys.

Then cleaned all the glass very good, and used my small siphon to surgically remove about 25% water. That took awhile, but almost every drop that went up the siphon had goop in it!

After filling the tank, and letting the filter go awhile, it looks incredible. Water is much clearer and everything looks so much more green.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
