A strange question? Noise and fish?

I have a 25 gal tank near a T.V. My husband will watch t.v at night, and I'm wondering how much action movies and sounds effect fish. Can it stress them? Does it have to be really loud to stress them?

I just added 3 dwarf rainbows to my 5 small danios and 3 cute ghost shrimp. Don't want them to be unhappy

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Gwen

I can't see that my fish are bothered by sound. I'm nearly deaf (well, not really, but way too many loud concerts when I was young) so I watch the TV and my movies REALLY loud. What my fish do notice are vibrations. Close the door to the tank stand to heavy handed and it severely startles my fish. I try to be very gentle as far as anything that may send vibrations through the tank.
Byron had a really good post in regards to this topic awhile back. I'm not sure if I can find it, it was quite some time ago. Hopefully he sees this thread and can weigh in.

I have wondered about this too. I have mooved the subwoofer as far from the tank as possible and turned it down.... It WAS in a BAD place originally LOL. I also wonder about the flashing lights from the TV, and because I am up late I feel guilty when I turn the room lights on a 1am.

Fish are capable of hearing which is to say responding to a range of vibrations which we call sound waves. Their range is roughly comparable to that of the old phonograph record [some of us remember those antiques] I remember reading years ago how the fish in an aquarium can hear the water running through the pipes in the house, something we cannot hear. I know my fish will be startled when a car door across the street closes. If we can go deaf listening to "music" [and I use the term very loosely] I am sure it must stress the fish. And we all know where stress leads.
