I have a 10 galon aquarium, running for about 6 months. heres what's in it:
3 oto cats
2 balloon mollies
2 shrimp
live plants and other decor.
I have a great filter running too, and I do weekly 10% water changes.
The tank just feels really empty... I was thinking I could add 2 cories to be friends with the otos. I hear they will swim around in the middle a bit? I know they're recomended in bigger groups, but i think my tank is too small for that. If that wont work out any ideas of what i can add? something cute with lots of personality! thanks!
I don't think any aquarium really ever looks "busy" they look so empty as their in an enclosed environment and tbh that's all that environment can really manage.
Option 1/ bigger tank, more fishies.
Option 2/ add more of the same species-the balloon mollies. I don't think it would be the greatest idea to add fish in a group smaller than suggested in an already small environment. There are many good reasons to keep them in the numbers suggested, aggressiveness etc, but primarily you want happy fish at the end of the day.
Personally I reckon your about at your limit really though and in all honesty both fish require a 20/30 gallon tank really.
corydoras catfish are probably the most peaceful fish in the hobby! As far as I have seen, the only major reason people like them in bigger groups is that they are less shy. Is that true? Also, I can not get a bigger tank. I just want to know if there are any other little fish that could live in what i've got. thanks!
so more otos? I do think they are super cute and loaded with personality. Do you think they would swim in the middle a bit in a bigger group? I love them, but it is so hard to get them to eat. one is fat and the other two look starved! Maybe they would eat more with some more buddies. Could I add 3 more and bring the number up to 6 or would that be overdoing it? sorry for so many questions and thanks in advance!!
If the three otos are doing well, I would leave well enough alone and not add more of them. They are, in their own way, probably socializing as much as they want just fine.
A 10g is too small a tank for any molly, frankly, so I would not increase what you have. Leave what is working alone here too.
A small group of corys could be added, they have less impact on things that upper fish. Five is about the minimum number you want, and I would select one of the smallish species. By which I mean, they remain under 2 inches when fully grown. There are several in our profiles. Some have more specific needs regarding water parameters, being GH, pH and temperature, so keep that in mind.
I got mine at world of wet pets in Beaverton Oregon. Another store near me named wet spot sells on aquabid and I can say from expeirence their store and tanks are clean
Cory cats would make a great addition!
I have 4 salt and pepper cory cats in my 30G. They swim with my wild guppies. Posted via Mobile Device
