Stocking 10 gallon South American

Petco has tetras on sale for $1, so I might as well go ahead and stock this tank already!

Any ideas?
I'm thinking maybe 6-7 neons and 6-7 silver tip tetras.. (I already have 3 green cories) I know I could stay on top of water quality, plus neons really don't work with the 1 inch per gallon since they're so slender. Body mass is really more accurate.

Would cories bother the neons? Their mouth is big enough... Would silver tips bite anyone? I hear their fin nippers, but there aren't any guppies or bettas in the tank. :P

ooo sounds nice,
corys wouldn't bother the neons at all,
don't know about the others apart from possible nippyness .

when you set up a new tank, hide an extra
sponge or two behind some decor, that way you have
something seeded for you next filter.

I would not recommend Silvertip Tetra for a 10g, they need a bit more room (profile gives long 15/20g as minimum) and a slight current, easier in longer tanks. Although people do it, I would not put any of the medium tetra in a 10g, the dwarf species work better. I knew a doctor years ago who had a lamp in his waiting room with a base that was an aquarium (if you can call a 1-2 gallon circle of water an aquarium) with 4 neons; poor things.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
