That's probably fine. A 20% water change isn't going to remove more than 20% of the ammonia in the tank, so your bacteria should still have plenty to "eat."

K. If I smell the ammonia again in a couple of days should I do another 20% water change or leave it alone?

I'd say if you're smelling ammonia the ammonia levels are definitely too high and a water change is warranted.
