Specks in my water...

Hmm...

When I first put water into my tank, I got the typical bubbles. Since it was all tap water (with conditioner of course). But since two water changes, I have all these tiny little specks in my water. Like, the size of a pin head. Are these air bubbles also? Why didn't they appear earlier?

What are they? Should I be concerned? Am I not adding enough conditioner?

(20 gallon, fake plants, no fish yet, drift wood, 150 penguin filter) :(

Do you have a picture? What kind of specks? Did you buy the driftwood at a fish store or did you collect it yourself?

Store bought drift wood. I boiled it, but it still causing a bit of yellowish colour to the water.

I tried taking a picture, but it doesn't show up.

It kinda looks like unfiltered tap water. But not so cloudy. If that makes sense...

:s Oh, and they sit on the water surface also. I am so confused by it!

Uhh...the water was slightly yellow-brown. But not flaky like lemonade is. It looks like what I get out of the tap. But I added conditioner so I don't know what I did wrong. Especially since it was fine the first times and I haven't done anything different.

If you pour unfiltered tap water into a glass, you usually see little specks of something in the water (at least here we do...)

Anyway, I am worried. My special order fish are coming in tomorrow (Thursday) and need to be picked up by Friday. I do not have another tank to use and want to make sure the water is ok.

Ah, I see. Conditioner is not going to get rid of specks. It is only going to detoxify chlorine. It will not get rid of normal water particulates. The specks could be tiny air bubbles. Either way I don't think they are anything to worry about. Just so you know the tannins (yellow color) released from the driftwood are going to lower the pH of your water, but they are not harmful to fish. Have you cycled your tank?
