i dont think people with expensive fish will try that unless theres a powerful sterilizer in there.mixing water form 2 tanks will make both susceptible to the same illness.but A plus for the set up
i think its a great idea... maybe some people might not like conected systems but in some situations it is benificial ...after all we are all looking for input and istead of downing your idea i find it very interesting...in fact i think that would be good as a quarintine system as itself...i work at a pet store and i conjunction with a maintenence buisness and i have to quarintine all sorts of difernt species probalacticly..regardless of origin and health..and i might modify this setup for some coral frag grow out tanks...alot of them love the same perameters and dosing but ther stinging tenticles and light needs differ... thanks again MOA and ADIOS........
There are two main applications to this system as I see it:
1) Allows the aquarist to minimize the number of independent regulatory devices. That is, siphon-aquariums only need one pump and one heater, thereby possibly cutting down on power use and minimizing the number of outlets required to maintain the system.
2) As badxgillan pointed out, this system also works particularly well when animal requirements coincide but behavioral issues prevent them from interacting. More specifically, I was thinking of breeding programs in which parents, juveniles, and fry must be separated.
Of course, as kitten_penang mentioned, the individual compartments will be interdependent and therefore susceptible to infectous diseases. At the same time, one has to bear in mind that independent systems that share maintenance equipment (like nets, water-change buckets, test kits, etc) also become interdependent and therefore susceptible to the spread of infectous diseases. Personally, I kinda like the siphon-aquarium because it reduces the false sense of security that some owners of multiple tanks have in that they often forget that shared equipment can lead to the spread of disease even if the systems are not directly connected--reminds me to be more careful than I might otherwise be.
