Smile Should i Upgrade to a 55 Gallon

I currently have a 20 gallon tank with guppies, platies, mollies, swordtails, and bloodfin tetras and i have a 1 gallon tank with about 30 or so fry of all species in it. Heres the thing i got what ive seen someone on the forum call the "fish bug" and am now in love with them, they just entertain me and never let life get dull. I went to LFS and saw a 55 gallon tank, and have fallen in love with it, now i dont know what to do, in 2 weeks i will be able to afford the tank and i think i really want it but for some reason im hesitant, i really do need a 55 gallon tank, or atleast a little bigger because i need to get 2 female mollies so that my mollies stop fighting and start entertaining themselves with the females. And i need to get more bloodfin tetras, so that they will be a school, right now theirs only 3. My 20 gallon tank is already full so i cant get anymore fish, and i do love the fish i have already but i feel like their lonely, oh right and i need a female swordtail because right now i have a male swordtail that spends his whole day racing his reflection up and down the side of the tank and gets depressed everytime he sees the other fish that all have atleast 1 other fish of its kind to hang out with. Ive been looking forward to early august (to get the tank) for about 5 months already and im pretty sure i really want it, im just scared it will be too much to handle. I need someone to tell me to go for it, u know give me some pep talk lol

Do it!

I know the feeling. I'm waiting to go from a 29 gallon to a 60 gallon in September and the anticipation is killer. I can't wait. Never had a tank even close to that big so it's going to be awesome.

I have a few 55's(and larger) set up,and if you can handle your 20,upgrading to a 55 won't give you any trouble. The best thing to have is a Python siphon(if you don't already).Other than that, the only difference in maintenance is that draining and filling for water changes will take a little longer.Go for it! A 55 will seem HUGE compared to your 20.And this will give you many more options for different types of fish.

Ah, another MTS victim. Yes, go for it. You know you want it!! lol
I agree, a Python will make maintenance much easier. You can buy it online at Aquarium Maintenance & Water Changes: Python No Spill Clean 'N Fill for much cheaper than at the LFS. I went from a 20 gallon to a 55 a couple years ago and absolutely love it. I'm know looking for another 55 or 75 gallon which will make it my 6th tank (including my betta tanks).

I disagree with the above suggestions. Upgrading to a 55 is not the direction for you at this point. I would instead upgrade to a 75.

I'd also say go for it =D, I find cleaning my larger aquarium is sometimes better then cleaning my smaller 8g XD. You will also get used to the change C=. Good luck :)

I started with a 30g in Nov 2008.........and I'm alreday wishing I had a bigger one! If you can afford it...I'd go for something even bigger. Better to do that now than regret not doing so later on. But much depends on your budget, of course. Whatever.........have fun!!!
