soo today i went out on a walk with my wife and we stumbled upon like a 40fott waterfall just a little guy right. but anyways we sat there and had lunch and got to talking about the tank that were about to set up and we saw allll kinds of slate shale sandstone just all kinds of rocks here at this waterfall. so i decided to just get a backpack full of em and use em in the tank. now my question is how exactly do i "sanitize" these safely and throughly?

Then the odds are decent its not a huge danger. Personally I'd let it dry out completely and I mean bone dry. This should kill off any algae, micro organisms, or other water borne nasties. I'd then give them a good scrub with a light bleach solution, a long thorough rinse, and then let them dry out again completely. Once that's done you should be rid of anything harmful and they should be ready to go in. I would not recommend baking or boiling them.
