Setting up my 55 .. couple of questions

So soon I'll be setting up my 55. I'll list my specs, then my questions:

55 gallon Aqueon 48" rectangle tank
100 lbs Eco Complete (probably going to use 85lbs and 15lbs tihitian moon sand for cycling from my 29)
Dual t8 Shoplight (going to be upgraded to the Finnex Fugeray Planted + when it comes out) diamondplate from home depot
Sunsun 304b filter (haven't ordered yet, open to alternates, thinking about a Eheim 2217 instead)
Aquaclear 70 (currently on my 29, will be added after cycling, when I take down my 29)

Combining all my tanks into this one, so stocking of plants and fish are "strange"
Water Sprite
Amazon (various sizes)
Crypt Wentii Green
Chain Sword
Anubias (various types)
Ozolot sword
Brazilian Pennywort

Just look at my bio, everyone in there, is going into the 55. A couple of fish have passed away from natural causes (age) and a couple of Otos will be added later down the line. Future plans for this tank is a Rainbow tank/otos/loaches/apisto pair

Just wondering if anyone can give me some tips on setting this baby up. Something I won't go "WTF Why didn't I think of that" after it's set up.

Maybe something to set up under the gravel for added ferts. I've heard of Osmocote but I know they don't sell the right "blend" anymore so I'd have to buy capsuls off someone who's got some. I've heard of Laterite but it comes in such a huge container that I don't know if it's worth the money to get it if I only need a dusting of it.

I don't plan on doing Co2 yet. This will be a high tech tank some day, but for right now I'm trying to keep it pretty low tech.

The water in this area is PH 7.2 and is slightly acidic (soft...) and I'll have driftwood from my 46 in there.

A friend is going to be caring for this tank with my help. I'm going to possibly be moving in with a friend and I can't have my fish tank. Well I can have my small one (6.6) so a another friend just moved and is willing to donate some wall space so my hobby can continue. I'll be providing chemicals and she'll be feeding them. I'll be cleaning the tank every weekend.

Any insight will be helpful. Not looking to do a huge aquascape because this tank might be torn down in 6 months to move into a new place. Just looking to set up soon .. cycle.. plop in fish/plants and in 6 months (hopefully) set this baby up with some flair..

Thanks guys

First thing to do when you get the tank is put the background on. On a larger tank it is immeasurably easier to do when the tank is completely empty, and it will look better.

I love my sunsun canisters, except I would skip the UV if you can. I think the A models are UV and the B models are not, or maybe that;s reversed. The flow rate is far too much to be effective at anything other than handling green water, if it can even do that.

I can't help you with the plant stuff, which includes substrate.

Thanks for the insight into the sunsun filters. I could care less about the UV but I can only find that unit online vs the other ones.

I already have a background on the aquarium. It's a blue one with roman type pillars and a statue.. well I"m not crazy about it but my hubby loves it. We applied it with oil and it's bubble free.

I might just dump in the substrate (and not use the water inside it) and just stick in some plants and let her ride...
