seeding new tank

i know that the bacteria needed in a tank live in filter media, substrate and decorations. how long does an object (say, fake plant) need to be in a established tank to have enough bacteria on it to seed a new tank?

I don't think a fake plant would ever have enough bacteria to seed a new tank, it may help with some soft of bacteria but I don't think it would be much difference. I keep an extra sponge running in my 55g in case I need to set up another tank, its always available to me.

i don't know how much it makes a difference, but i'm just trying to seed a 10 gal hospital/QT tank. i don't have extra filter material to move, so i was hoping that moving some of the decorations would help avoid spikes which would just stress a possibly sick fish more.
