Question Second hand tank clean up

Hey,

Just setting up my 80L Aqua One 620. It's second hand so i was wondering if it could harbour disease? I'm putting in new gravel and water in. But using the ornaments and plants that came with it. I will be cycling the tank also for the next month or so, will this eliminate any possibility of disease? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks
Ryan

If the items have been dried out very thoroughly, the risk of disease is pretty minimal, IMO. If it's to be a freshwater tank you could set the tank up and load it with salt for a little while (start with fresh for a few days then add salt) - I suspect that would eliminate most encysted parasites, although I really don't think you are at risk if everything has been dry for a while. I would at least rinse everything with tap water and/or a salt solution.

I'm certain others here will have some equally helpful, or better(!) suggestions.

Cycling will also further reduce any risk.
