I just thought that the sand would be the best kinda substrate so ive been told. Thats why i wanted to ask experienced ones as the ones posted for their experiences or comments. Thanks everyone :D. Would you say that sand is worth it? and how do i clean the sand before add it to the tank?

The sand it worth it if you're going to be using fish which will appreciate the sand, such as corydoras. If you're doing a tank full of neon tetras, it doesn't matter, as they will never touch the sand anyway.

Clean the sand with repeated rinsing. I took a 5G bucket of sand outside, filled with water, stirred, dumped out the water and repeated another 50 or so times. It's an absolute pain, but better than dumping dirty/dusty sand into the tank.

As with any substrate change, always remove the fish beforehand.

I also heard it was best for plants.

I wouldn't say so. Sand can be problematic if it compacts around the roots, because it inhibits growth. It also doesn't have any nurtients in it, unlike the planted tank substrates, so you must fertilise with root tabs. If you want a good substrate for plants, I'd recommend something like Eco-Complete.

you could have the best of both worlds.
half sand half gravel.
that's what i;m going to do when i set my tank back up.
just need some plexi glass for the seperation.
then you could have the plants at the back in the gravel, and a nice sand
area in the front.
:)
and ditto about washing out the sand,it takes what feels
like forever to wash it out, however it is worth it.
:)

most hardware stores with cut it for you if you need them to. some will do it for free others charge by the cut. if not there is a tool for cutting it. mine was only like 4 or 5 dollars and you cant go wrong have a little extra plexiglass laying around ive used it for quite a few things.

One bright day in the middle of the night, two dead boys got up to fight. Back to back they faced each other, pulled their swords and shot each other. One deaf cop he heard this noise and came and killed these two dead boys. If you dont believe this lie is true ask the blind man, he saw it too.
