rocks for a 55gal

so i have this 55 gal that i plan on putting african cichlids in. i want to have a wall of rocks with plenty of places for the fish to hide and swim through. is there a certain way i need to stack the rocks. do i really need to put anything under the rocks to protect the tank, or will the tank be able to handle all the weight.

thanks in advance
matt.

That's cool,

what kind of rocks are you putting in there?

I would say that if the are on top of some gravel you are good to go unless you are putting in an amazing amount of rocks...

Some people silicone their rocks together so they will be more stable but this prevents you from rearranging them as easily...
