The rise of the phoenix

So last year I woke up to crazing in my 220 and shut it down, it was a very sad day for me; while not a monster tank it was my dream tank at the time.

Back in Feb I decided to try and find out why it crazed like that, and found a failure in the stand, so I fixed that and put the tank back up, well since its still running I figure its time to do a resurrection thread.

Crazing?
I'm sorry, I'm not familiar with the term.

Father Knows Best but Abbey knows everything! I once knew everything, then I asked one question.

Me either. Oh and is that you sleeping?

Nice looking setup btw.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

Crazing is when fine cracks appear on glass, at least thats my understanding of it... It's one of the major reasons its worthwhile to buy a good stand for tanks so it supports the tank evenly. Over-time, uneven surfaces will stress the glass at different places and fine cracks appear as the glass is overstressed.

Its my daughter sleeping.

This is an Acrylic tank, and in the case of Acrylic Crazing is cracks that typically are inside the acrylic, the cracks are not on the outside surface or inside surface but actually start in the middle of the acrylic.

also Crazing in acrylic can be caused by bad stands like it was in my case but most of the time its caused by someone using cleaning chemics on acrylic, putting acrylic in direct sunlight, or when the the tank makers use flame polishing, and weaken the acrylic and then the normal stress from the water even on an even stand causes the crazing.
