Replacing filter cartridge
So I have emperor 400 power filter. I need to replace the cartridges because they are old and covered with alot of matter. My question is can I replace them both at the same time with out losing bacteria. I think that I can because behid each of these cartridges I have a media holder that are filled with biological media which should be holding the colonies of bacteria. Just need some quick advice.
I noticed you mentioned that your Biological media is behind your mechanical pads? It should be the other way around. The mechanical filtration should be the first that hits the water, and lastly biological. If the unfiltered water hits the biological media, there is a much greater chance of it clogging the bio media holder with waste. In the emperor 400 you should put the mechanical pads in the back, and the biological media holder in front.
In addition, just wanted to add something. To save you some dough-re-me, you could rinse them in aquarium water and they are like brand new, or at least look a little cleaner. Although there is a chance they will be slightly less effective. Personally in my opinion, I would take the carbon out, unless you plan to change it weekly.
