they usually do a flat shipping rate once you buy so much....the stand alone would qualify, but would be a good chance to buy your chemicals in bulk and not pay for heavy shipping.....

just an idea, or keep your eye out on craiglist....

don't give up....when i was finally ready to set-up my 55 Gallon after 8 months....I had a faulty tank that I didn't know about....filled it then immediately had to drain it.....bought another tank a week later and cracked it on the wall taking it downstairs....i wanted to give up....2 tanks in a week, ruined...but it all worked out and I love my tank and it makes me appreciate it so much more

JohnnyD44,

No offense, but why in the world would I want to order an aquarium stand and chemicals in bulk form drsfosterand smith when the the 55 gal tank is chipped and defective? Isn't that buying the cart before the horse? I still need a tank.

If I buy eveything else first, I still have no place to put the Calicos expect in their individual 10 gal hospital tanks.

The budget was focused on the tank. Whatever money was left over goes towards the rest of the equipment. If I spend the majority of the budget on the equipment there will be none for the tank.

The defective 55 gal tank only cost me $40.00 dollars.

The 20 gal tank from Petsmat cost $59.99 dollars.

A brand new 55 gal tank is $150.00 dollars.

Therefore, I do not want to spend any more that $60.00 dollars for a used 55 gal tank.

In the local newspaper there was a 55 gal tank, hood, stand and accessories all for $100.00 dollars. The ad was sold, by the time I called.

Yeah, I bought two (2) tanks in the course of three (3) days. Bought the 20 gal tank on 05-22-09 (returned it on 05-23-09) and the 55 gal was purchased on 05-24-09. Neither tank worked.

My fault,

I was replying to another post you had about a stand and didn't put the two together that you were the same person....my fault. yeah do not buy a stand before a tank....sorry about any confusion...I mixed my posts up

Keep looking around....you'll find something eventually, and maybe with some luck you'll get somehting bigger for only a few dollars more!!

it's frustrating when things don't work out when you want them too....good luck!

IonBaller07,

Thanks for the suggestion, but I am already an active member of freecycle. Registered with the site about five (5) years ago.

I placed my "Wanted" post on freecycle before I submitted my Craigslist ad.

What I need is a 55 + gal tank without cracks, chips, and/or scratches, but the only aquariums offered on freecycle are cheapy 10 gallon tanks.

I have enough hospital tanks to fill an entire room with. Sick of 10 gallons. Do not need anymore. Wish the stores would quit making/selling them.

So far, the 55 gallon that I need are in other states. Mostly in IL. CanNOT drive that far for a simple tank. Add the price of gas to the "bargin" sale price of the tank and you might as well purchase a brand new 55 gal tank!

Gas here in Southern IN is currently $2.69 a gallon.
