Question Reading Water Test Results

Hello everyone,

This is my first post although I've been on here for a while learning, learning and learning some more! It's a wonderful forum and I've learned SO much.....thanks!

I had a question about reading the test results from the API test kit. It's kind of silly but when I compare the color results of the actual test tube to the color card.....do I hold it against the white of the card or hold it away some (a few inches in front of the white strip). Doing it both ways gives me significantly different results and now I'm not sure!

Thanks so much......

Good question!! (FYI when you sign on each time, click on UserCP top left and it will list the posts there that have input/answers) I lay my test tube against the card and use another white card to block out the other test lists of colours (all 6 in rows on one card) as they are distracting to me, and I think that if you hold it away from the card you may get variances in colour due to lighting and less intensity as you are then looking thru the tube rather than at the colour. I try to use day light not yellow lamp light, and block out the other colours. Does that make sense?

Aquarium
Welcome to the forum.

Hold the test tube against the white area of the card, not away from it.

75 Gallon - Odd couple (Polleni/Angelfish)
55 Gallon - African tank

Welcome to TFK, Astrid. Do you have any pics of your tank that you can share? We all love pictures!
