This will be minimal light, but only with a good tube. I have a 29g tank which is 30 inches length, and a single T8 tube 24 inches, and I can grow decent plants (low and moderate light plants) with a Life-Glo tube. The less expensive tubes do not have sufficient intensity.

The one that came with the unit is probably not adequate, if it is anything like mine was.

On the CFL 6500K, I would hunt around for the GE, they are better.
