question on cycling adding a living plant

I have some bamboo plants and i placed one sticking out of tank. if i placed a few more would it aid in cycling the tank? i would basically place the roots in the water and the plant sticking up outside the tank.

I think so. Fully aquatic plants do aid the cycle. And if you have enough to start out with there is no cycle.
