Hi,
We were away for a week and came to find one of the guppies pregnant. Her gravid patch is getting darker each day.
I got a breeder tank today and put her in it but not sure if its to early.
She isn't eating that much, just spits the food out.
We have only had them for a month so she is still quite small.

Well congrats and welcome to the forum.

Guppies will be pregnant for about 28 days so if she is showing good guess she is about 10-14 days in so you are about half way there. As far as the fry you have lots of options and it all depends on if you want to keep them or not. I have been one of those people that allow nature to run and leave the fry in the tanks, many of them survive.

Pregnant Guppy

I've had pregnant guppies and they were really really big in the belly before they delivered. The belly sort of squared off. Unless you plan to go out of town again you can wait until she starts to deliver because they usually deliver fry off and on for up to 3 days. Once you notice her hiding in the tank somewhere when it's not time to sleep or you see fry then you can move her if you want to, gently of course. I didn't move mine and I kept a floating plant (regular plastic plant removed from its base) in the tank for the fry to hide in. You can crumble up flakes and drop them on the fry to feed them. But if you don't want to have a zillion guppies you may want to let nature take its course and leave the fry to fend for themselves. They would grow up and inbreed and eventually overcrowd the tank anyway. But keeping a few is fun. I had some that grew up to be beautiful before disease wiped them out. I made the mistake of buying a new guppy and not quarantining it before adding it to the tank. It carried a disease that is difficult to cure and they all died. Anyway, try not to worry too much about her and good luck with whatever you choose to do. Oh, and you might consider feeding her a small amount of food 2-3 times a day so she gets enough food since the fry take up her tummy space.
