power off for 6 hours - do I need to do anything?

My electricity was turned off today from about 9.30 am to 3.30 pm. I rang the aquarium shop and they said that I should treat my tanks for white spot because the change in temperature might cause an outbreak. The temperature is usually about 24/25C in the bigger tanks and about 25/26 in the bettas' tanks. It dropped to about 21C. Is there anything I should do now? Should I medicate the tanks against white spot as suggested? Thanks.

I wouldn't. I would get the temps back up to where they usually are (slowly) and perhaps do a partial water change since there wasn't any filtration for several hours.

Then take it from there - wait and see what develops.

I'm not a big fan of medicating tanks unless ABSOLUTELY necessary.

Ah, the serenity......nothing more relaxing or beautiful to look at than fish gliding around their tank......

When you say treat the "white spot" are you referring to ich?

medicating your fish when they haven't shown any symptoms seems like a ploy to sell medication to me

my fault, I mis read your post...

I agree, medication for a tank is not necessary unless you have an outbreak.

Thanks, everyone. I don't want to use anything unless it's necessary. I'll wait and see what happens. The water will warm back up at whatever rate the heaters manage. Luckily it wasn't that cold today, and they've got their heaters back working at night when it's colder.
