power filter question

So i have a emperor 400 power filter on my 48 gal tank. I try to change out the filters twice a month due to the high load on them. But when i remove the old ones a cloud come out into the tank. My question is does matter build up on the bottom of these power filters? If so how do you fix the problem? its not really an issue it just takes a while for the tank to clear up again.

try shutting off the filter and emptying it out take it apart and clean everything, i do this to mine about once every 2 months, all kinds of gunk will build up insode of the box and impeller.
