I just bought a 55 gal tank. rather than put gravel at the bottom, I am wanting to put river rock (like used for landscaping.) My concern is that that will be way too heavy for the tank.
thank everyone for helping me out. I am looking at the 7/8" river rock. not the pebble size.
I am looking at putting just one layer of rock, just enough to cover the bottom.
I think rocks that big might not look so great on their own because the gaps between them would show glass. Plus, lots of waste would build up under the rocks and would be pretty visible. I would get some sort of smaller substrate then put the river rock on top of that.
