Playsand with loaches.
This a good idea? I'm worried it may be too sharp.
Playsand is fine. I have it as a substrate in my 75 gallon, and my four Yoyo Loach have no problems. They dig around in the sand to find blackworms that have hidden away and their little barbel looking things don't suffer at all. Agreed with the other person, just make sure you rinse it really well.
Agree. My Botia kubotai have a fine gravel which they burrow through, my Dwarf Loach and Banded Dwarf Loach have Quikrete Playsand, as do all my corys.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
