I want to try and put some live plants into my cichlid tank but I dont want to buy the expensive lights and I dont want the cichlids to eat the plants so I was wondering if anybody out there knows any plants that I can try out. Would anacharis be a good plant?
hi
not a problem,to be honest i don't think of it as a problem that the eat the plants,
i see them as a food sorce, and another surface for a little algae to go on.
i wouldn't put anything truely expensive in there with them,as they are likely
to uproot them, when it comes to them digging burrows anyway.
i guess perhaps to protect the roots you could leave them potted ?
I'm having luck with cryptocoryne wendtii. I have a regular 20L hood with whatever lamp is came with. There is also an incandescent lamp sitting next to my aquarium. They're growing slow but steady.
In fact I just bought some more.
The chameleon plants (Houttuynia cordata) were growing fantastically until the loaches started eating them. That's why I got more of the other.
