Question Planted tanks/ shrimp farms

I am planning on converting my 10 gallon tank to a planted shrimp farm but i got some questions.
1. do i need a filter running?
2. what plants are easy to use?
3. if i use a filter can i use a regular or do i have to use a sponge filter?
4. will the shrimp breed on there own?
5. can i put a craw dad or lobster in there without having any problems with the plants or shrimp?
6. any other info, things i should know or 2 cents would be greatly appreciated

thanks yous very much in advance

Rather then repeating I'd suggest you read these 2 here http://www.tropicalfishkeeping.com/f...keeping-37012/

Use a sponge filter. If water parameters are ideal they'll breed just like that. Adding a Lobster (apart from needing a GOOD tank size for most of them) will result in issues with your shrimp AND plants; so I'd suggest better not to and rather set up a shrimp farm AND a sep lobster farm.

Once you read the article posted above please feel free to knock me down with any questions you have. If you go into my Aquarium log here to the left under my name; you will find various of my Shrimp farm set ups with few pictures each.

okay the sponge filter i have is about 6in in diameter and 5in tall its run by air pump and would take alot of room put of the tank. would it be acceptable to but a sponge over the opening of my internal filter and just use that?

You got a VERY big sponge there then; mine in the 10 g's set ups aren't that big.
If you have a HOB and pull a sponge over the intake it'll be safe enough yes.

Ohhh let us know how it goes :) I love shrimp tanks :) I'm thinking of getting one of those 5 gallon hex tanks and making it into a shrimp tank. :)

sure thing ill post some pics once its all done. oh and today i came across some bamboo shrimp listed for 49 cents each! i couldn't pass it up since everywhere else they were like 6 dollars each so i got 5 of them. now just gotta wait till the water clears up which is happening very very fast with this tank. my plan is to get some cherry red shrimp but i cant seem to find them anywhere not even online. if any of you have a site that is selling them at a reasonable price let me know =)

Do you have a chance to at least seed the tank off of an existing one? Shrimps are not tolerable to cycling in case you didn't know they don't handle that well at all to say the least.
