If you were to perform google search on causes of algae in aquariums ,perhaps it would help you identify possible factors contributing to the growth. I am no plant guru and the plants that I do have,, are low light plants. Most recommend approx. two watts of light per gal. It would seem that the light you have is a bit much and I would probably start there,, before I considered the use of any products in the water.
