Question planted tank cycling method

i am setting up a planted 55 gallon tank and was looking at methods of cycling. However, it said that the planted method was best left to the more experienced. What method then would you suggest?

hi there!!

go for the frozen shrimp method its the easiest!! Just add a one inch shrimp per 20 gallons and monitor the parameters! thats it! the shrimp will give you a steady flow of ammonia and you'll cycle the tank in about three to four weeks!! 5 weeks tops but I dont think it will take that long!

what method are you using to measure the parameters?

also! dont add any fish until the cycle has ended! it is true that many fish are hardy enough for the cycle but they do suffer when ammonia and nitrite levels get above 0 so just dont do it for the sake of the fish you know?

Who told you that planted tank cycling was best left for the experienced? Nothing could be simpler. I always use live plants and never have a detectable cycle (zero ammonia and nitrite from day 1 with fish in the tank).

All you do is plant the tank with lots of plants. By this I mean that one or two little plants won't do much, but several are needed. Once the tank is planted, introduce a small fish or a few (this depends upon the fish and the tank size). As long as you don't overload with fish you will not have problems. The plants grab the ammonia so fast the fish do not experience stress from either ammonia or nitrite.
